Jasper National Park (Near Mount Robson National Park [BC], border)

Date: August 11/ 1996

Occurrence: The witness stated that while walking along the edge of the highway he spotted what he thought was another hitchhiker coming the other way. But when he waved at what he thought was the other hitchhiker, it stopped dead, almost beside a highway sign, and then tore off into the woods. He thought this was a little odd and he was concerned about why this person would do something like that. When he got a little closer to the sign, he realized that this "person" would have to have been 8+ feet tall, compared to the height of the sign on the shoulder of the highway. He went on to say that, after passing the spot where this creature had left the road, he could swear that something was keeping pace with him on the other side, just inside of the tree line. He said that this went on for almost 20 minutes; he was then picked up by a trucker, and taken out of the area.
